Community Stewardship
Here are some of the ways that we try to contribute to our wonderful community.
Since our journey started back in 2003, Highwood USA has always strived to make a difference in everything that we do — the products that we make, the people who make them, and the customers whose lives are ultimately touched by our creations. We recognize and appreciate our responsibilities to the environment, our team members, our community, and to each other. Our goal is to make a positive contribution in the community by aligning our charitable contributions and employee activities with this program. This program is our promise to you — to make a difference in the following areas:
- People & Volunteering
- Supporting Education
- Charitable Donations in Our Community
People & Volunteering
We encourage every member of the Highwood USA team to volunteer their time and expertise to help in the community. Highwood sponsors opportunities throughout the year to participate in volunteer activities.
Supporting Education
Highwood USA continues to foster STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education through scholarships, internships and supporting programs across all education levels, especially high schools. If you are an educator and would like to connect with us, please send us an email. Latest annual data:
- Career & Technical High School hires = 6
- Interns = 15
- Tours & Classroom visits = 15
Charitable Donations in our Community
Highwood USA focuses charitable donations (gifting products, monetary funding and volunteering time) to local 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations whose mission it is to help these groups. We also provide support to families of employees in need. The Salvation Army receives a large portion of our funding in this area. Other areas of funding include agencies and/or programs that:
- Serve disadvantaged children
- Help the elderly and the disabled
- Help veterans and military families or
- Help the homeless
Our efforts are almost entirely focused to the immediate communities in Schuylkill, Carbon and Luzerne counties, PA. We do, on occasion, support projects that help broader geographic areas and communities. Additionally, we sometimes support causes that have a special meaning/connection to our employees that may not fit exactly into the above groups. Groups that we do not typically fund include:
- Individuals
- Religious organizations
- Fraternal organizations (Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, etc.)
- Political organizations (election committees)
- Hospitals
- Labor groups
- Social clubs
- Athletic organizations
- Government agencies; Municipalities
